The Estonian Literary Museum hosts a reading group which brings together people fascinated with memoirs and life histories. The monthly meetings take place on the penultimate Wednesday of each month. At the meetings, participants discuss recently published books that have received notable public attention. The reading group is led by Tiina Kirss and Maarja Hollo. At the very first meeting on January 24, 2024, the discussion focused on Jaak Kangilaski’s memoir Minu elud (My Lives), which has sparked widespread debate and controversial opinions in society.
The reading group welcomes all readers, young and old, to participate and discuss the books.
The next meeting will take place in September 2024 to discuss Ela Tomson’s book Valda Raud. Üks elu (Valda Raud: One life).
In early spring 2024, the group convened to discuss the Estonian translation of Siegfrid von Vegesack’s trilogy on Baltic Germans, Die Baltische Tragödie, Tõnu Õnnepalu’s Paradiis (Paradise), Maarja Undusk’s book about her mother, Estonian poet Ellen Niit, Heleda mõtte laast (Chip off a bright mind), and Elin Toona’s memoir Pagulusse, Lugu elust, sõjast ja rahust (To exile: A story of life, war, and peace).
